Write an argumentative essay on the two sides of the question: Should highschool students after graduation take part in a gap year?
Make sure to include:
– an introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion
– a clear claim, counterclaim, and thesis
in-text citations (parenthetical citations and signal phrases)
– elaborative techniques
– transitions between ideas, sentences, and paragraphs
– LOGOS as the only rhetorical appeal
Write essay in this format-
Introduction (already done for you, don’t alter in anyway):
“Picture this: A college student stressed out and in-debt with an undecided major, stressing if college is worth it and feeling as if their money is going to waste towards studies they don’t care about. The student is currently trying to submit their paper for their English class a minute before it is due. They submit whatever horrible piece of writing they wrote about a random topic for at least some partial credit. As the student is getting ready for bed, they turn on the TV and see a travel ad for many different countries. They say to themselves they wish that was them exploring and think if they should have done a gap year. This is the thought that faces millions of students’ minds in generation Z who have just just graduated high school or are in college. It can be a big decision and as a senior in highschool myself I know we all want to make the right decision, feel prepared for our futures and enjoy what we will study. But the unknown and stigma around a gap year we have to sadly combat with. Some believe that taking a gap year is an unnecessary time away from a student’s future goals and can negatively impact their motivation to go back to school; however, the evidence shows that highschool graduates taking part in a gap year before college can mature them both professionally and emotionally, spend their money beneficially towards exploring cultures, and truly make them reflect on what job/career path is their true passion.”
USE in text citations and the sources given for the body paragraphs.
the “NO” side sources should be used in these paragraphs as well for a counterclaim (use signal phrases) but should return to your original position towards the end.
Body paragraph 1-
Write on the 1st reason students should take a gap year: highschool graduates taking part in a gap year before college can mature them both professionally and emotionally
-Use both pro and con sources
Body Paragraph 2- Write on the 2nd reason students should take a gap year: spend their money beneficially towards exploring cultures
-Use both pro and con sources
Body Paragraph 3- Write on the 3rd reason students should take a gap year: make them reflect on what job/career path is their true passion.
-use both pro and con sources
Conclusion- conclude with the same thesis and counterclaim from introduction, stay firm of position but do talk of other side but how ultimately students should take a gap year.
