Throughout the quarter, students will submit three “Building Blocks” that iteratively build on course concepts and culminate in the final paper. Building Blocks are designed as a way for students to develop their writing skills and analysis of economic democracy, to review and retain course materials and discussions, and to receive and incorporate feedback prior to submitting their final paper. In each of these building blocks and the final paper, students should incorporate course concepts and materials to analyze economic democracy, mutual aid, and cooperatives. More specifically:
Building Block #1, due on 9/28, should be a 2-3 page outline reviewing relational economics and capitalism. Students should incorporate course readings and lecture notes, and explain whether they agree or disagree with critiques of neoliberalism and why. Students can include their own experiences to explain their perspectives if they choose (include a citation to the broader phenomeonon where possible), and may reference other studies/concepts where relevant. Please remember to cite all sources.
Building Block #1 should:
Be submitted on Blackboard by the deadline as detailed on the course schedule below. Assignments that are 1-2 days late will be deducted 10% for each day; assignments more than 2 days late will not be accepted.
Reflect the page count listed above, and be single-spaced, Times New Roman, 12-point font, 1-inch margins (5 points)
Cite course readings and at least 1-2 external sources; follow APA citations (5 points)
Make coherent and compelling substantive arguments that draw on course material, offer thoughtful reflection and analysis, and follow the prompt above (25 points)
Be clearly, concisely, and effectively written. Reflections should be easy to follow and use appropriate grammar. (15 points)
