1. Formatting and Length. The assignment consists of eight components (A-H) described below. Each component consists of a 500-600 word response (~2 double-spaced pages in Times New Roman, 12-point font). No report may exceed 3 pages. Use this guidance document to plan and organize your reports.
2. Writing style. Use a formal writing style and grammar. You may write in first person (“I”).
3. Be specific. Use concrete details from your observation notes to support your claims. Choose
examples that illuminate the point you are making. Be specific.
4. Explicit connections to course concepts. Make explicit connections between observations,
course concepts, and readings. Use academic terms and define them when you first use them in the report. Make at least 2-3 explicit connection to at least one reading in each component and cite the source. List any cited work at the end of each report. I do not expect you to cite sources other than assigned readings for the course. ELLs, Students with Special Needs and Teacher Responsibility. Include a descriiption of three characteristics of lessons that were designed (or not) to accommodate the different cognitive needs of students, a descriiption of the behavior of one student with special needs with clear indicators of how you, the teacher and other students reacted to this student, and formal definition of any major concept used (e.g., ELLs. learning disability, ADHD, mental handicap, giftedness).
