Assignment Instructions
1. Overview
Pretend you are a tour guide for the country you have been researching the last 4 weeks. You have been informed that your fellow classmates will be visiting this country with you. Knowing you have gained knowledge about this country, your instructor has asked you to design a brochure and share it in a presentation.

2. Length of Brochure
The overall brochure should be 2 pages in length + a Reference Page
3. References
For this project, you are not required to include in-text citations, but you are required to cite all your sources, for writing and images, on a separate Reference Page. Please use this link to The Purdue Owl Reference List: Basic Rules. Although this source mentions it is for the end of a research paper, the same rules apply for this brochure. You should NOT be using translation software other than to look up single words. Apps and software often get the information wrong.
4. Description in English
Write a description at the top of the brochure in English. It should attempt to distill what is important to know about the culture in this country for anyone who will be visiting it for the first time. Note items that are significant to the culture in this country – What is important to the people who live there? Family, religion, business, recreation? What does daily life center around? Discuss multiple aspects of the culture. How is this similar to, or different from what is important in your own culture?
5. Spanish Written Descriptions and Photos
Writing
After providing the English description at the top of the brochure, place at least 10 complete statements, written in Spanish, along with supporting photos. These will describe important things the students should experience while visiting. Each item should name the experience, which could be a place, an event, a band, food, art, holidays, music, etc. You need to briefly describe what is wonderful or interesting about the place. Each statement must be at least 2 sentences and may include bullet points or other formats.
As a reminder, you have many options for nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. In order to avoid incorrect translations, please only use Spanish/English dictionaries or translation apps for single words. In most cases, it will be obvious if the software was used.
VERY IMPORTANT: When you are writing sentences that address the brochure audience, you will need to use 3rd person plural (ustedes) form of the verbs because it is formal, and you are addressing a group of people. Example: Let’s say you want the readers to visit a park in your country. You might say, “Tienen que visitar el Parque Nacional de Banff porque es hermoso.” = You have to visit Banff National Park because it is beautiful. However, be careful if you continue to describe the park in the same statement. If I added a sentence describing the park, I would use 3rd person singular (it). “El parque tiene muchos animales.” = The park has many animals.
You are required to use at least 5 different of the following verbs and verb structures in your brochure. However, if you use more than 5, it is okay to repeat a verb or verb structure.
Hay – Week 3 -Parte 2 -Tables 3.20-3.25
Tener – Week 4 -Parte 2 – Table 4.4
Tener que + infinitive – Week 4 – Parte 2 – Table 4.6

Ser – Week 3 Parte 2 – Table 3.19
Estar – Week 5 Parte 1 – Instructions: Uses of Estar as Compared with Ser
IR + a + infinitive – Week 4 – Parte 1 – Table 4.1
Si (if) te gusta + infinitive – Gustar with Teacher Catalina
-AR (Week 3 – Parte 2- Table 3.18) , -ER, -IR (Week 4 Parte 1- Table 4.2 and 4.3) verbs
You are also required to include each of the following in your brochure:
También – Week 1 Parte 2- Table 1.4 (at least 1 in the entire brochure)
Question Words – Week 2- Parte 1 Table 2.1 (at least 1 in the entire brochure)
Adjectives – Week 3 Parte 1 – Tables 3.11-3.14 at least 1 in every statement (a statement is more than 1 sentence). You may use Table 3.11 from Week 3 and spanishdict.com

Nouns – Week 3 – Part 1- Instructions: Definite and Indefinite Articles at least 1 in every sentence Hint: You cannot write a sentence without one. You may use Table 3.15 from Week 3 and spanishdict.com
You will be required to include the Imperative Mood, at least once, in your brochure Week 5 Parte 1- Tables 5.1 and 5.2
Images
Your brochure must incorporate images from the country you’ve chosen to support your statements. Each statement needs a photo. Think of these like captions that need to include multiple sentences. You must keep track of the sources and include them on the Reference page.
Please look at the sample page of this Brochure. The statements are in English and depict simple types of sentences you will be expected to write (without translation software) in Spanish about your chosen country.
6. Recording
Now, record a screencast using Canvas Studio’s screen recording capabilities to record your brochure and narration in which you present the statements in your brochure. Using your cursor to point to the different statements as you work through them, describe the photographs by speaking aloud in Spanish sentences. You can speak the sentences as they are written, but you are also free to deviate from the script, if and wherever you are comfortable. Again, do not use translation software to help you – you should speak using your own understanding of Spanish. It is less important that you say things exactly correctly, or speak fluidly, or use complicated sentences to impress. You are speaking in a language that is not your native language – the challenge is to get complete ideas across, and don’t worry if you struggle at times for the right word. It is okay if parts of this video are awkward – in fact, that is a sign that you are trying!
As mentioned, please use Canvas Studio. Record your video, and add captions. When you are ready to submit your Course Project presentation video, hit “Reply” below and use the Canvas Studio IconCanvas Studio Icon.JPG found in the toolbar above the dialog box. Select the video you recorded and “embed” it in your response, then “Post Reply”. For assistance, see these instructions on Screen Capture (recording the screen and, optionally, the student’s face).
This recording should last no longer than 5 minutes.
7. Submission
When you have finished your presentation, you will submit it to the discussion board so your classmates can learn about your country.
You will not be able to view others’ presentations until you have submitted your own.
