Question/post number one :
I didn’t really think about what would happen if the NP chose not to confront the issue. I guess when you have more responsibility, you have to be comfortable with some level of confrontation. Is it actually the case that if the NP ignored the wrongdoing they could be liable for negligence? It is becoming more obvious to me that it’s imperative NPs are aware of the current laws, restrictions, and what is going on with their staff. As a RN I am not responsible for the actions of other staff and that is something I will have to get used to!
Question/post number 2:
Repeat illegal actions
It is possible that this employee may have performed this type of illegal action in the past, perhaps frequently. If that is the case then the issue is typically with the culture of the practice where such behavior is either accepted or not reported. Either way, the action by this staff member may have had far-reaching health consequences for the patient and obvious legal actions against the staff member and practice. If it is the culture of the organization then it will take some time to effect change especially if it is a private practice. Practices that have one owner that is the lead physician may experience these types of issues compared to practices with multiple providers that is owned by a healthcare organization.
