HEAL8170 – Group Presentation
The purpose of this assignment is to conduct a group presentation that is intended to influence
or “lobby” a panel of healthcare professionals to fix a problem, change a process, influence a
new approach, modify an existing approach, through a change in legislation. The purpose of
this presentation is to inform AND influence.
Before beginning your work, ensure you validate your topic with your professor.
Instructions
You and your group represent a group that would like to see a change to legislation. You will
present for 15 minutes, with an additional 5 minutes for the panel to ask questions, to outline
your proposed change.
In your presentation, you must cover:
1. What is the issue you are trying to influence/modify/change/introduce?
a. Area of health law
b. Area of practice: location, health discipline
c. Why is this an issue that needs to be addressed? What will be the benefit/result
that is trying to be achieved?
d. What is the ask? – check the Rubrics
2. What are key impacts of this change?
a. What are the implications for health practice?
b. Who is affected by this issue?
c. Expected time frames for roll out in change of practice
d. Why are you asking for this?– check the Rubrics
3. How could this impact current and future health care practice?
a. Changes to practice
b. New policy
c. New legislation
d. Changes to legislation
e. What has to be done to make this change happen? Check the Rubrics
4. Recommendations of how we can prepare for this.
a. Communicating to colleagues
b. Financial implications
c. How will this be done – check the Rubrics
Once you have presented, another group of students will ask you at least 3 questions, based on
your presentation that you will need to answer. These questions could be for clarification, raise
concerns, etc.
Submission/Grading:
 Prior to your scheduled class, submit the PowerPoint you will be using, to eConestoga –

 Ensure your group member names and student numbers are on the first slide
 You will be marked in two parts,
1) for the group presentation, which is 60% of the mark
2) for your individual contribution, which is 40% of the mark
 All group members must present a portion of the presentation and ask questions to
your assigned group.
 All group members must submit the assignment – it is the same assignment.
