Self-motivation impacts job performance. The workplace allows for a multitude of ways in which employees can be motivated, both internally and externally. In addition, there are many ways through which employees can have their own needs met through this process.
Imagine you are a human resource professional within a manufacturing organization that has 500 employees.
Your manager has asked that you prepare a 10- to 15-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation on self-motivation and its impact on job performance. You will present to department managers across the organization.
Address the following in your presentation:
Define 2 types of needs―physiological and psychological―in relation to human motivation in a work setting.
Explain the importance of self-motivation in the workplace and how this relates to the 2 types of needs you identify above.
Describe how self-motivation improves management skills.
Identify and explain the factors that affect human behavior, including autonomy, competence, and relatedness in relation to the workplace.
Apply at least 1 theory―such as drive reduction theory, cognitive evaluation theory, or Herzberg’s two-factor theory―to show how physiological and psychological needs affect behavior and motivation in the workplace. The theories should be similar to (or from) the list of 33 on pages 54-55 in the course text. Note that for maximum credit 2 theories are needed.
Explain how organizations are affected by unmet employee/human needs, as well as how managers might improve employee experiences and help them become more self-motivated.
Speaker notes must be a part of your presentation. Keep in mind that the speaker notes should contain the bulk of the information for your presentation and should be complete on each slide. There is not a specific format for this assignment, but the speaker’s notes should be roughly 150-300 words, each, depending on the information being discussed. Each slide should follow the 6:6 rule and have no more than 6 bullet points with 6 words each. Speaker notes do need to contain clear citations, too. If necessary, make sure to cite information on the slide itself. For this presentation, make sure to keep it professional! Note that the first person should not be used in the presentation.
Note that the introduction, conclusion, and reference slides do not count toward the slide totals, but do need to be included as a part of the PowerPoint. The introduction and conclusion slides should also be done in bullet point format, with the bulk of the information in the speaker’s notes. The references need to be formatted using APA requirements.
This is to be written in a professional manner, so the first person (I/me) statements and examples should not be used.
Here is an example that relates to the 2 types of needs, what they are , how they work in terms of motivation, and some changes that might be made to address any issues (in the outline below, they would relate to slides 1, 2, 9, 10, and 11). This might be helpful to review, especially to see what a notes section can look like. (It does need to be downloaded to view the notes section in PowerPoint.)
