Provide the name as well as the major features of the stage; be specific by providing examples from your life as well as examples from research and/or the textbook to demonstrate your understanding of that stage.

Lifespan Psychology – Erikson’s Theory of Psychosocial Development
“Erik Erikson (1902–1994) (Figure 9.4), another stage theorist, took Freud’s theory and modified it as psychosocial theory. Erikson’s psychosocial development theory emphasizes the social nature of our development rather than its sexual nature. While Freud believed that personality is shaped only in childhood, Erikson proposed that personality development takes place all through the lifespan. Erikson suggested that how we interact with others is what affects our sense of self, or what he called the ego identity” (p. 291).
In this video, I discuss the theory in general and discuss some of the details of each stage:
Importantly, Erikson believed that the order of stages is important for healthy development. Take intimacy, for example. In the United States, the divorce rate for first marriages is about 45%, and it’s even higher for second marriages. Why do so many people experience struggle with this type of relationship? Surely, there are a number of influences on divorce, but Erikson hypothesized it has to do with the order of his psychosocial stages. Specifically, people must satisfy their personal identity concerns (stage 5) before entering into an intimate relationship (stage 6). Watch this video here to see Erikson discussing this very notion:
