Before submitting your peer review
Please make sure to abide by the following:
Make sure you’re quoting from at least two short stories and list both in your Works Cited, in alphabetical order by author’s last name.
Make sure you have at least three full pages of coherent writing in basic essay structure in addition to a Works Citedpage before you upload your draft for peer review so that the process of giving and receiving feedback may be more mutually helpful.
Make sure your essay is formatted according to MLA: correct headings (Use student example essays from 11.1 as models.), one-inch margins on all four sides, double spacing for entire essay (No extra line spaces between paragraphs or heading lines.), font size no bigger than 12 pt or smaller than 10 pt.
After getting feedback on your peer review
After peer review, you are encouraged to revise your essay. You are free to accept suggestions from classmates or not. Either way, revision consists of three major moves:
Adding (information, support, details, paragraphs, explanation, etc.)
Cutting (unnecessary information, excessive detail, words that are confusing or unnecessary, etc.)
Moving (paragraphs, sentences, phrases, words)
You can find additional information about revising and editing here: UNC Writing Center: Revising Drafts
Pay attention to places in your still-evolving draft that would benefit from applying one or more of the three major revision moves above. Also put some effort into
Reading Aloud: Again, reading your own writing out loud is an excellent revision tool. You will often hear awkward elements when you read out loud that you wouldn’t notice when reading silently. This is especially relevant for an analysis essay because you want your points to make sense so that your audience considers the position you’re taking to be reasonable and relatable.
Choosing Meaningful Transitional Phrases: In terms of fluid writing style and logical organization of ideas, transitional phrases are key. Your academic essay would be greatly improved with the addition of some meaningful transitions that show logical connections.
In other words, you’ll want to be intentional about choosing a particular transitional phrase because it clarifies the logical relationship between two sentences and improves the flow of language.
Please don’t thoughtlessly insert any transition, though, just to have transitions in your essay because if the transition don’t make logical sense, it will be meaningless and detract from the flow of your ideas. Refer to the chart below and choose some meaningful transitions to your draft that will strengthen your personal narrative essay.
Checking Your Spelling and Grammar: Something you should always do before submitting your final draft of an essay is make sure it does not contain any distracting errors in spelling and grammar by running a Spell Check and Grammar Check on your document. You may also want to use a tool such as GrammarlyLinks to an external site. (added to Chrome as an extension), which automatically checks your grammar, word choice, and tone.
Proofreading: Read over your draft one last time and make sure to fix typos and usage errors before you submit your final draft.

Peer ReviewLinks to an external site. on Canvas.
If you do submit your draft by the 11:59PM deadline, Canvas will automatically assign you three anonymous peer reviews at midnight.
If you do not submit your draft by deadline, you will not be assigned peer reviews and, therefore, will not receive credit for this assignment. In addition, because peer review is dependent on classmates and timely completion, it is not an assignment that can be made up later.
(Note, also, that submitting your draft earlier than 11:59PM on due date will not immediately assign you peer reviews–all peer reviews are automatically generated by Canvas at the same time – midnight on the due date. )
Please understand that you will not gain points simply for uploading a draft; credit is given for providing classmates with helpful suggestions for revising their essay. Plan to complete the peer review by as soon as you can so each student writer has the chance to incorporate your feedback into the revised final draft. Peer Review will close on November 7, 11:59PM, after which it will not be possible to complete the assignment.

Once you locate your three peer reviews, use the peer review questions below to give helpful feedback to each classmate’s draft. You will want to imagine the author is asking you about his/her essay, and your job is NOT to edit your classmate’s writing or fix their grammar. Instead, your job here is to give each classmate’s writing your kind attention and offer respectfully worded, helpful feedback as the intelligent reader and thinker that you are.
