Respond to Peer Discussion Post:
Our group has selected a couple of cultural practices to describe our cross-cultural journey and the USA as a country to analyze these practices.
The question I like the most is this one: ‘Think of a typical family in your culture. Do children generally obey their parents’ directives and decisions?’ about Power Distance cultural practice.
I like this question because I spent a lot of time working with children at Winrock International. In some of the country, in the national country culture, the children discover their parents are wise people. They are aware of what’s best for children. They give instructions to the children, and the children need to follow these instructions. The children are expected to ask only a few questions. Instead, they follow the advice of their parents.
On the other hand, the scenario of the lowest power distance cultural countries in glove is different. In these countries, the children can participate and provide their opinion. They can challenge their parents, and they can express their views. They can ask lots of questions. Children are the family’s ultimate owners.
