Choose one of the following topics and write a 1,000-words essay. Post it under ‘Assignments’ before October 30, 11:59PM.
1. Given her age, Yaa Gyasi, the author of Homegoing, would maybe be the granddaughter of Haile Gerima, who made the film Sankofa, write in what ways Homegoing is different from Sankofa in its depiction of what it means to be Black, or is it not different?
2. Cutting the funds stops a war as Virginia Woolf explains in Three Guineas and as we can see happening with the war in Ukraine and Congress in a standstill, take Olaudah Equiano’s Narrative and Homegoing and explain if it should also apply to the Civil war that led to the abolition of slavery.
3. Put yourself in the feet of Olaudah Equiano, and from the experience he so vividly narrates in his Narrative, write a letter to Haile Gerima about his film Sankofa, and tell him if his film is accurate in its depiction of slavery.
