The purpose of this assignment is to synthesize what you have learned about student development theory to design an intervention/propose a new or improved program or service at student affairs units (primarily in fraternity and sorority life). The project will consist of several steps, culminating in a final written proposal. In a proposal you would present to the Vice President for Student Affairs, you will identify an issue or concern in higher education and design an intervention rooted in college student development theory to address the issue or concern. You will also include a timeline and budget for implementing the program or service. Please include the following sections in the proposal:
●Statement of the Problem- Identify an issue or concern in higher education/student affairs. Write a statement of the problem in 1-2 paragraphs.
●Review of the Literature – Conduct a brief literature review about the issue or concern. Be sure to synthesize the major themes in the literature – do not summarize individual articles/chapters. This section of the proposal should be in a format that would be easy for a busy administrator unfamiliar with student affairs literature to understand quickly (think charts, bullets, graphs, etc.) and references to relevant literature.
●Theoretical Framework – Review one or two student development theories that could help you develop an intervention related to your issue or concern. Find the original source & summarize the theory in your own words. Again, think busy administrator-how can you present this information in a thorough & concise manner?
●Proposed Intervention – Based on the review of the literature & your theoretical framework, propose an intervention (e.g., programs) for the issue or concern identified in the statement of the problem. Integrate the literature and theoretical framework throughout this section; demonstrate how your proposed intervention is rooted in theory & research. Be sure to describe any anticipated challenges and your recommendations for addressing them.
●Timeline, Staffing, & Budget- Describe the timeline, staffing, and budget necessary for this proposal.
