Though ABA main focus is treatment of those diagnosed with autism the need has risen for it as there is a larger need for behavior therapy beyond those with autism. ABA is a science contrary to popular belief. According to Applied Behavior Analysis science is a systematic approach to understanding natural phenomena. ABA is closely related to psychology
A science related to health science. Behaviors is related to everything in life. ABA focuses on behaviors that needs to be improved and has to be measurable. Since ABA focuses on behaviors that needs to be improved, this can relate to health in many ways. If a client is has issues with bathing or unhealthy relationship with foods. ABA can provide a therapy plan or intervention. ABA also teaches important lifestyle skills needed for survival.
Overall ABA can help clients identify life barriers and provide intervention for self regulation and independence.

Although behavior analysis is most commonly used to treat autism and developmental disorders, it has many other potential uses in health science that are not limited to this particular demographic. According to Heward et al (2020), applied behavior analysis is the science devoted to understanding and improving human behaviors. With that being said, behavior analysis can be used in the healthcare setting to address a variety of problems and enhance patient outcomes.The following are some crucial domains in which behavior analysis can be applied:
Health Behavior Change: In healthcare settings, behavior analysis supports behavioral change in relation to assisting people in embracing healthy lifestyle choices, like giving up smoking, getting more exercise, eating better, and managing stress. This is one of the most common ABA behaviors outside of autism.
Treatment for Addiction: When it comes to treating behavioral addictions as well as substance usage, behavior analysis also plays a role in health science. Addiction treatment relies on principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA) to help individuals overcome substance abuse and addictive behaviors. Functional analysis and contingency management are two often used techniques. Heward et al (2022) stated that functional analysis is the foundation for an experimental science of behavior; as a method for assessing the controlling variables for problem behavior, functional analysis informs the design of effective treatments.
Functional assessment: Health science behavior analysts utilizes assessments that identifies triggers of the client which helps them to understand the function or purpose of these behaviors.
Evidence-based interventions: An evidence-based intervention is a treatment that has been shown to be effective by a peer-reviewed scientific research. When implementing any treatment, regardless of the type or amount of research evidence to support it, practitioners can and should verify its effectiveness with the or clients they serve by direct and frequent measurement. In many cases, analyst are mandated by law to utilize these interventions for clients.
Data Collection and Analysis: The gathering of data to evaluate behavior change is an essential part of behavior analysis because this application is used to access the success of interventions.
