Thesis, Body Paragraphs, and Conclusion
Your thesis will be your response to the question, “How does Hawthorne use symbolism to support the theme of “Young Goodman Brown”?” (Thesis: Hawthorne uses a, b, and c as symbols to support the theme of “Young Goodman Brown.”) You will select several symbols within the story (at least three) and analyze each in a paragraph. Examples of symbols include but are not limited to setting (village/forest); the pink ribbons; the serpent; etc.
• You will have an introduction, body paragraphs for each symbol, and a conclusion. The introduction should discuss the theme of the short story. Each body paragraph, a symbol.
