2. Using Who Built America, what were “Jim Crow” laws and practices? How were they sustained through culture and violence? What rationale did the U.S. Supreme Court use to uphold Jim Crow laws in Plessy v. Ferguson (1896)? How did African American leaders respond to these laws?
3. Compare and contrast the main points of view of Samuel Gompers, Eugene Debs and Andrew Carnegie. What were their main arguments? For instance, what were the views of Debs on labor and capitalism? What did Gompers see as the cause(s) of labor? What did Carnegie see as the responsibilities of Capitalists?
