Discussion Board Question [Option 2]Given that this course is about psychopathology and diagnosis, one area of continuous disagreement among professionals is whether or not clients should be given information on their diagnosis or whether this information should be used only to inform treatment planning and other clinical interventions. Some rationale for avoiding providing a diagnosis include potential for client to “take on the label” and “diagnoses are stigmatizing.” Provide additional arguments for both sides: why clients should be given their diagnosis and why it may not beneficial for a client to receive their diagnosis. Feel free to provide rationale for the arguments, discuss any irony surrounding the arguments, and/or expand on what this means for the clinician/therapist. Please substantiate your claims with credible sources, beyond opinion. Feel free to use the journal located in the Resources folder titled, “DSM-V and the Stigma of Mental Illness” by Ben-Zeev et al.
