This week, we will consider how the literary terms speaker/persona, situation, setting, theme, and tone can be used to analyze poetry.
For this discussion topic, be sure you have read and studied the materials and the poems in the learning resources.
Choose two of the poems listed in the learning resources and answer the following questions for both of them. Keep in mind that the “speaker” of the poem is the “persona” that the poet has created, not the poet him/herself. Try to describe the speaker by giving an overview of him or her, such as a person who is grieving over a lost loved one.
Who is the poem’s speaker?
What are the poem’s situation and setting?
What is the poem’s tone?

Make it clear which poem you’re discussing, and which literary term you are addressing. You do not have to number your responses. Instead, it would be preferable for you to craft strong and explicit topic (opening) sentences that convey to us right away what your response is about. Again, interesting and specific subject lines are also welcomed and appreciated.
