Welcome to Module 7 and the serious discussion on violence in healthcare. It is an unfortunate fact that violence occurs in health care facilities and involves violent criminal events including assault, rape, homicide, and suicide. Violence in the healthcare environment has a significant impact on nurses and includes events such as the battle against human trafficking as well as lateral violence/bullying amongst our own. In this module, we take a look at human trafficking and how to spot it, gun violence preparation, and also how to combat lateral violence against each other.
When looking at violence in healthcare, human trafficking is an essential topic to discuss as healthcare providers. However, many nurses come in contact with a victim yet are not knowledgeable on the signs to look for and actions to take. Discuss what your role is as a nurse in realizing the signs and what interventions are necessary.
