Assignment:
You will write a report of a rhetorical analysis of a static/print advertisement that you find unethical.
You will analyze and explain your ad in terms of the rhetorical concepts we have learned in this course.
You will also argue why you believe the ad is unethical.
The goal is to use the rhetorical concepts and terms we are learning about to do a rhetorical analysis.
The audience of this report is an educated audience, including your classmates and college instructors. Rhetoric is the concepts. (Audience, Purpose, Context, Genre, Design, Credibility, Voice.)
Rhetorical analysis is the application of those concepts to your subject/text (which in this case, is your unethical ad).
Try to use all of the rhetorical concepts in your rhetorical analysis, but some concepts may be more productive than others for you, so you can concentrate on those more. For example, maybe some analysis using “context” is working better for you. Go ahead and do more work/writing on context then. If “genre” isn’t producing as much work/writing, then just be brief.
You can go beyond the questions and prompts given here.
You are not writing an essay. You are simply “reporting” the findings of your rhetorical analysis of the unethical ad. So you can just stick to the structure you see below. NOTE: You do not need to respond to every prompt. Those prompts are to get you thinking. You should also review past modules for ideas and materials to help you generate writing.
Write in full sentences, and pay attention to spelling, grammar, etc. Remember your audience expects clarity and accuracy in your writing. Minimum 3 pages double-spaced, Times New Roman 12-point font. BE SURE to attach your report to your post as a document (.doc, .docx, .rtf, or .pdf). Also, attach or include the ad you used/analyzed. The ad itself will not count toward page minimum, obviously.
