One of the outcomes of the course is that students will know state, federal, and provincial laws and regulations as well as professional ethics and standards for clinical practice and research. Your professional development as a marriage and family therapist is related to your degree of literacy about licensure matters in your state. For your assignment this week, you will first need to gain familiarity with your state’s licensing board website. You can search for your state’s licensing board here. Links to an external site.
From the licensing board website, you will research two to three actual cases brought against marriage and family therapists for ethical violations against the principles of the Code of Ethics. The cases researched must be actual cases of ethical violations brought before state regulatory boards. If you cannot locate a case from your state, you may search a neighboring state. As an example of what to look for, you may refer to the list of disciplinary action cases located on the Minnesota Board of Examiners in Marriage and Family Therapy. Links to an external site.
Write a 5-page paper, with references, summarizing the cases. For each violation described, you must describe how the use of an ethical decision-making process from the Week One readings could have helped avoid the violations. Special emphasis should be given to the ethical decision-making process.
Format your paper according to APA guidelines.
