Purpose: This assignment will prepare the early childhood administrator to be an informed decision maker in regards to creating a plan for their center’s improvement. Part of this process is to measure the performance of staff, progress assessment of children, and effectiveness inventories of administrative policies or procedures or of some other component of an early childhood education program. Periodically, long-range planning should occur. The evaluation plan should include provisions for everyone connected with the program to participate. Staff members should be encouraged to participate in discussions about the program and its policies and procedures.
Directions: After reviewing the example of an early childhood center’s data below, design a plan for improvement using this template. Identify three goals for improvement based on the data. One goal must be aligned with creating a diverse and equitable learning environment. Mission Statement:
The mission of Jones County Head Start is to become the leading choice of preschool education in which passionate, dedicated, and accomplished educators will foster and facilitate a safe, developmentally appropriate environment for the active and creative minds of children.
Vision Statement:
The vision of Jones County Head Start is to work in partnership with families and the community while enhancing the active and creative mind of the whole child for school readiness by closing the readiness gap.
Demographics:
The school serves pre-kindergarten children; therefore, it is also licensed under the State’s Division of Child Development. In 2005, the school received a 5-star rating from the Division of Child Development. The center has dropped to a 3-star rating. The school is located in the center of Jones County, providing services to families of preschool children in an easily accessible area. The Pre-K program in Jones County is composed of children enrolled in Head Start and Pre-K.
