Title
First paragraph
Maybe the second paragraph can be a summary of your editorial and then maybe put the URL here too. Summaries are not easy, but try your best in the drafting stage.
The background information (likely this is included in your editorial) that the reader of the editorial needs in order to understand why the writer is even making this argument. However, you might have to do a bit of background research on your own so you will understand what has motivated the writer to publish this editorial in the first place.
In the next paragraph, you might state the claim of the editorial and then describe the kind of evidence it uses to support that claim. You might say “The author uses logos and ethos to support their points. They use hard evidence (statistics) and they also explain that they have direct personal experience with the topic.”
Next you might start to analyze if their use of statistics is helpful in making their claim. Or maybe they should have used pathos instead? Or maybe they used a lot of pathos but hardly any other kind of persuasion. Maybe it is a very emotional argument, but the claim would have been proven better by using hard evidence (logos) too.
Here you might give specific examples of what you are saying in the paragraph right above.
Now you might be ready to evaluate or assess the opinion piece here in the conclusion. And that is the end—you should not include your own opinion about the topic that the writer is arguing about. That is not the purpose of this assignment, so don’t include it
