In which students develop their own research of a surgery of
interest within the cosmetic surgery sector.
The research paper needs to incorporate understanding of
surgical terminology, protocols and disciplines within
cosmetic/plastic surgery. Identification of training for the
surgeon to perform researched procedure.
The project needs to:
• Have a clear ‘thesis statement’ for your work – this is the
intent of the paper; a question to answer or an argument
to make
• Utilise the terminology of the surgical procedure
showing understanding of the terminology
• Clearly define the training needed and probable
fellowship membership required to undertake procedure
• Analyse the success of the procedure for surgeon and
patient
• Articulate the possible complications
• Define how the clinical aesthetician would aid the
successful outcome of the procedure

In this context, you will need to comprehensively research a topic and present the results.
How do I write it?
You need to write up the results of research on a surgery of interest within the cosmetic surgery sector.

Describe the terminology of the surgical procedure
Describe the training needed for the surgeon and probable fellowship membership required to undertake procedure
Analyse the success of the procedure for surgeon and patient
Articulate the possible complications
At this level, try not to simply describe. You need to evaluate. For example, it is not enough to merely explain the possible complications of the procedure. You need to tell us why something is positive or negative, based on what it can lead to. To be more analytical and critical, each time you make a point, ask yourself: Why is this important? What does this lead to? What are the consequences if this isn’t done correctly?
Suggested Structure
Research papers need to be clear and easy to read, so they can be organised into sections with headings. The headings can be based on your assessment question.
Step 1: Highlight the key words in the assessment question.
Step 2: Choose a type of surgery within the cosmetic surgery sector that particularly interests you, and that you can find plenty of information about.
Step 3: Divide 3000 words into how many paragraphs you will need (approximately 15 paragraphs, so 13 body paragraphs plus introduction and conclusion).
