Hello I will need the copy of the science lesson/activity you picked. It has to be analyze and then provide a critique that addresses whether or not the activity/lesson plan incorporates the following and that is in the instructions. Rationale:
As a teacher you will be gathering many resources to prepare to teach science to your students. While some curriculum materials may claim to be “ready to use,” “hands‐on,” or “inquiry‐based” lessons, a close analysis of these activities reveals that the opposite may be true in many cases. Your professional knowledge, informed by research, theories of learning, and professional readings serves as a foundation for making decisions about the kinds of learning experiences you will provide children. This requires that teachers think critically about activities and resources they find online, and adapt these activities to reflect sound educational practices.
Expectations:
Your final project should contain the following components:
STEP 1: CHOOSE AN ACTIVITY: Select and provide the original copy of a “cookbook” science activity from a text series, curriculum guide, activity book, or website. Be sure to include a copy of the lesson with your assignment. If the lesson is hidden behind a paywall, subscriiption, or account, PLEASE provide a full copy of the lesson, not just the “highlights” or overview. I need to see the entire, original lesson plan.
STEP 2: ANALYZE THE ACTIVITY: Provide a critique that addresses whether or not the activity/lesson plan incorporates the following, and how:
The Nature of Science (How does the activity portray science? Does it perpetuate any myths or stereotypes?)
Scientific Inquiry (Is this an inquiry-based activity? What level of inquiry does the activity align with?, i.e. confirmation/structured/guided/open; What essential features of inquiry are included in the lesson plan? What are students doing in this activity that takes into account and furthers their inquiry?)
NGSS Science Practices (What are the main science practices focused on in the activity? What are students doing?)
NOTE: Connect your critique to class readings! (Include references) It is your job to analyze and critique the lesson plan/activity:
If you find that the above three components are not reflected in the lesson plan you selected, then state it frankly and explain and justify your argument. Do not simply state that the lesson plan does not reflect these components.
If you find that either or all three components are reflected in the lesson plan you selected, then also explain and justify your argument. What is the teacher saying or doing in the activity that convinces you so? What are students expected to do that convinces you so?
STEP 3: MODIFY THE ACTIVITY: Explain how you would modify the activity to address the points made in your critique. (You may do this as a narrative and/or rewritten lesson plan.)
Address modifications to EACH: 1. Nature of Science, 2. Scientific Inquiry, and 3. NGSS Science Practices.
Refer to the strategies suggested in the reading by Bricker (2005), Banchi and Bell (2005), those modeled in class, and features of effective science teaching discussed in the Harlen (2001) text and NGSS Science & Engineering Practices (Lead States, 2013).
Be sure to connect and explain the implications of these modifications for student learning.
if you need anyother files let me know.
it should be a science lesson plan for kindergarten. I will also need to be able to print a copy of the lesson plan you pick.
