Informative speech- Requirements:
• The goal of this speech is to inform the audience about a topic.  At the end of the speech, the audience will have a balanced view of the selected topic based on your research.
• The audience should not know your attitude or personal viewpoint on the topic; they can learn what other “experts” have said.  As a note of caution, you will want to watch your use of language, using descriiptive terms, not evaluative terms.  (Avoid terms like: good/bad; right/wrong; important, critical, essential, valuable, and helpful.  Unless cited from another source, these terms imply your position which the audience should not learn).
• The speaker should provide the facts so that the audience can decide what (if anything) is important.  Do not urge the audience to act on the issue.  Action is an essential component in the persuasive speech, NOT the informative.
Organization:
• A written preparation and final outline is required for this speech and should include all relevant content and sources.  You should use the Informative Speech Template provided to create your outline.  All Main and sub-points must be written in a complete-sentence format.  You should follow the outline symbol structure identified in the textbook sample outline on pgs. 106-108. Your bibliography should list the sources you consulted and must be included in proper APA/MLA format. Use the format that is required by your instructor.
• A speaker’s outline is recommended when delivering the speech.  For an example see the textbook pg. 108.
Sources:
• At least two credible sources (beside yourself) must be mentioned in the speech and referenced properly (MLA style) in the outline. This requirement is at the discretion of the instructor and it could include more than two but not less than two credible sources.
• Instructors may also limit the number and type of electronic sources and websites you can use. NO MORE THAN 1 website only source may be used. Sinclair students must use at least one published source.
