* Just write 3-5 paragraphs (1-3 pages) and discuss what you learned from lecture. You are also encouraged to use the assigned readings. The main purpose of the assignment is to show your knowledge of what we studied. Don’t use any sources other than the readings I have assigned. If you include a quote, simply include quotation marks and a brief parenthetical citation such as; “Quote” (The American Yawp” or “Quote” (Oakes 20).
Don’t use any other web sites for information in your work and include quotation marks for any quotes you used. I am not looking for experts in English writing or history, so you are encouraged to use your own voice. I am instead looking for authenticity, thought and effort.
1) Discuss a couple of the major British immigrant groups during the colonial era. Who where they? Why did they immigrate to America? Where did they settle in America? What are some of the distinctive characteristics of the groups you are discussing?
2) What were some of the important characteristics and differences among these colonial regions? Why did those differences exist? Make sure to take a long term view, by not just focusing on Chapter Two readings, but by also considering the Chapter Three content. Of course, focusing on the lecture is fine.
3) In your discussion you are encouraged to include ideas and information from the “How British are You?” reading. What are some of Mr. Fischer’s thoughts on British colonization and how they shaped regions in North America? Can you see examples of his ideas in our lecture or text book readings?
