Your essay should be 4 pages long, using double-spaced, 12 point, “regular” font (Times New Roman, Calibri, etc.).
The essay should consist of two parts. The first should be a general summary of the book. A summary highlights the main arguments of the book, the evidence used by the author, and the conclusions they make from their evidence. It is NOT a chapter-by-chapter breakdown. Carson’s writing style uses many very short chapters, so making a summary like this would be very difficult for anyone.
The second part should connect the book in some way to current issues. This is meant to be broad to allow you to be creative in making connections. You should utilize some outside sources for this, but it need not be extensive. A few newspaper articles, some scientific publications, etc. that demonstrate that you are able to conduct some research and connect it into a narrative is all.
Citations should be done in Chicago Style format. This means they should be used as a footnote or endnote. Be advised, a footnote or endnote is not the same thing as a footer. If you cite your sources using a footer, they will show up on every page, rather than just the page you are making the citation. It will make your plagiarism score on Canvas very high.
