semester. After World War I, US President Woodrow Wilson sought to establish a global
organization to create peace and stability. The League of Nations would ultimately be doomed
by US political divisions, though a successor would form after World War II, the United Nations.
Some questions you may wish to explore include:
1. What steps did the Covenant take to try to ensure a conflict like World War I would not
happen again?
2. What was the nature of the organization the League of Nations sought to establish? How
would the League function?
3. How would the League address disputes between member nations? Do you believe this
was a reasonable solution to resolving such disputes?
4. Do you believe the League of Nations would have been set up for permanent success if it
had the opportunity?
5. Was the League of Nations a good idea?
