Program Evaluation Designs: Data Collections Methods and Measurement Tools
Explain the specific evaluation design you plan to utilize for your type of program evaluation, such as a pre-test/post-test, or post-test only design.
Next, to prepare for developing your data collection plan, identify the Method for collecting data. Do you plan to use new or existing data sources, and probability or non-probability sampling to collect your data?
Last, identify at least one measurement tool you will utilize in collecting data, and any potential threats to internal and external validity related to your data collection plan.
My program that is being used:
Program evaluation is essential in programs to understand the effectiveness of interventions undertaken by program owners. Program evaluation involves collecting and analyzing data from different stages in programs to provide in-depth analysis of the progress. Various types of program evaluation can be conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of housing provision to homeless youth and families. Efficiency evaluation can be performed to understand the efficiency of resources used for minors exposed to abusive and neglectful environments. Resources are vital for the success of programs and should be used as intended by program activities such as building temporary homes for homeless minors in Illinois.
Efficiency evaluation is essential because it prevents the misuse of funds meant to help homeless families and youth (Shinn & Cohen, 2019). Additionally, efficiency evaluation helps to know if the resources available are adequate to build temporary homes for minors exposed to abusive and neglectful environments. Building homes for people without housing in Illinois is funded by the government and should ensure the resources provided are used within the program’s requirements. Efficiency evaluation is vital for programs when resources are limited to address social problems because every amount of money spent is accounted for (Arias-Pujol et al., 2022). Efficiency evaluation ensures houses and support programs are within the set budget and provides insights early in case the budget is not enough for additional allocation of resources.
Efficiency evaluation is beneficial to my program intervention because it provides accountability. Efficiency evaluation ensures that individuals addressing the exposure of minors to abusive and neglectful environments are accountable because they understand the effects of misusing resources. On the other hand, efficiency evaluation benefits creating homes and temporary shelters for people experiencing homelessness because policymakers and the government will know if the resources provided have built enough homes for homeless youth and families (Marshall et al., 2020). Efficiency evaluation is also helpful to my program interventions because it provides insights for continuous improvement. Efficiency evaluation provides information on the resources required to build temporary homes in Illinois, ensuring homelessness is addressed.
My program is needed to address the continued exposure of minors to abusive and neglectful environments in Illinois. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) addresses the problem of child neglect and abuse, mainly focusing on cases where children are in harmful and risky situations. Because of high caseloads, and limited resources with the engagement of child protective services, many youths are returned to bad environments for continued abuse or neglect.
The continued exposure of minors to such environments relates to a decline in their quality of life. The related social problems include depression, stunted development, and life-long trauma.
I have three interventions:
Safe Housing and emergency shelter
Goals: To provide youth/families who are homeless refuge and safety, assess their needs, and help them find safe, long-term housing.
Intensive In-Home Services for Intact Families
The objectives are to identify and address family dysfunction, enhance parental abilities and dynamics, provide therapy, education, and support, and monitor the development of a stable family unit.
Financial Stability of DCFS
Goals include finding long-term funding sources for DCFS activities, saving costs, and working with other businesses and government groups to get funding.
