This assignment requires you to a) prepare and b) facilitate a discussion on culturally sensitive and humble treatment implications and recommendations for client’s with specific social & cultural identities. Facilitating this discussion will include prepared materials in which you act as the knowledge expert on this cultural identity and are able to lead a productive discussion about the subject.
Follow these instructions and read the rubric below to determine how this assignment is graded:
Preparation: 1) Read the chapter in the text related to the cultural identity or group that you have been assigned. 2) Find *recent* articles, literature, media and data/statistics to share about this identity/group. ( Please find it for me).
3) Create discussion questions, activities and visual aid to accompany your 20-minute discussion with current information and content (videos should be no longer than 2 minutes maximum). Sample discussion questions: What common successes or challenges are folks with this identity experiencing today? Why might clients from this background be less or more likely to seek out counseling?
Facilitation: 1) Successfully engage the audience in a discussion on the topic. 2) Review information and knowledge that expands on the points from the reading to highlight in our visual aid; choose key points from the book and additional information from outside resources. 3) Focus on the clinical implications (facts about mental health & clinical interventions) that are most important when counseling clients who share this identity. 4) Discusses the biases or judgements that some might experience with this group.
