Choose ONE of these two prompts:
What do you consider the most compelling thing(s) that educated laypersons outside our class should know about English as an international language, and why? (By “educated laypersons,” imagine that I mean peers of yours at the U and/or in a professional setting.)
What relevance do you anticipate this theoretical scholarship and empirical analysis will have for academic, professional, and/or everyday writing now and in the near future?
Whichever prompt you choose, write a response of at least 1,000 words that includes specific integration of material from at least two chapters in Jenkins–paraphrase, direct quotation, and summary as appropriate. While you don’t need to provide a list of references/works cited (because that would be superfluous), I do expect that you will provide in-text references to page numbers and/or at least to chapters.
Note that I’m grading this assignment on a 100-point scale. I don’t generally use explicit grading rubrics, but my evaluation will account for
