Question 1
Hernández-Torrano, Somerton & Helmer (2022) state that “countries that lack research tend to borrow notions and strategies on IE…[and that doing so] may conflict with local needs, values, and traditions” (page 907). What are some of the ways that strategies might be misapplied and therefore not fit with local needs and culture? If you can, provide specific examples.
Question 2
As we discussed during our first week of class, special education emerged to address the need for education and training of individuals who were completely left out of the educational system and as a result evolved as a parallel programme to general education. Given this history, does special education support or hinder inclusion in schools?
Question 3
Aspelin, Östlund & Jönsson (2021) write that “a compelling body of international research demonstrates that a positive, supportive teacher-student relationship is essential for students’ development, especially for at risk-students” (page 1). However, they go on to suggest that “an accepting attitude…may also indicate something problematic” (page 11). Could it be that some educators adopt “a too accepting pedagogical attitude?” What are your thoughts and questions related to their question?
