What Would You Do? This week, we participated in a simulation that put you in some challenging decision making positions – individually and as the member of a team.
Ethical Leadership and Decision Making
What is ethical leadership? How does ethical leadership impact decision-making? These are 2 simple questions that volumes have been written about for hundreds of years.
Patient Zero simulation has given us several opportunities to experience extreme decision-making challenges. This paper requires you to consider ethical leadership and decision making in your own life experiences.
Many of the difficulties you have faced in your life may parallel those from the simulation, so your reflections will begin with the simulation debrief.
NB: There are multiple ways of responding to the following questions – there is no right or wrong; this is about your experience, opinion, and how come to your decision. (This is why ethical leadership is so hard! Regardless of how you respond, please justify with examples from the simulation and your life experiences, and support with ethical frameworks.
Be sure to link your reflection and reasoning to the theories, frameworks, and ideas we have covered in the first 3 chapters. Please don’t forget to include ideas from the last chapter on Stakeholders because if any situation is about stakeholders, it is how your decision making affects others!
Make sure your paper includes the following
Provide a brief, general summary of ethical leadership and decision making.
Describe your decision-making processes – in the simulation and/or in your life experience. In other words, what do you consider, how do you make sense of the situation, and what compels your decision to be one way or another?
Which event in the simulation did you personally have the most difficult time with when deciding how to respond and why do you think/feel this way? Importantly, consider and relate this difficult decision and feeling to your life experience.
What were the largest challenges for you and why do they seem more difficult than others? Again, consider the simulation and relate to your own life experience.
What were your greatest learnings from your experience and how have they made you who you are today?
