Scenario A: Carla and Eileen
Carla is a new analyst at your company. She appears to be bright, very hard working, and productive. Most days she is at work before you arrive at 8:30 AM and is still at work when you leave around 6:30 PM. The work you have seen from her is solid. Her director, Eileen, spends little time coaching Carla on the skills necessary for her long-term success and fails to give her opportunities for growth and exposure at the firm. The company’s directors are very busy, and they are expected to turn out major results. As a result, Eileen spends in excess of 70 hours per week at work.
Questions:

Scenario B: Andy and His Reassignment
Andy is a virtual colleague on your team. The team has been working together over the last 12 months making cold calls to boost orders. Andy came to the team directly from college and has been a very dependable team member but has struggled to generate new accounts. During video conference conversations with Andy he has made it clear that he has heavy college debts and that he will be getting married in 3 months. During your weekly conference call with the team’s manager she let slip that Andy is being moved from his present commission-based position to one where he will be salaried but no longer in a position to get bonuses. He will be employed but his income will be lessened. The position reassignment conversation has happened and Andy has asked to video chat with you about his frustrations and low morale.
