Metaparadigms are theories that lay out the structure of how different disciplines operate. The category I chose to focus on is nursing. The nursing meta paradigm contains concepts of interventions that nurses implement when caring for patients in healthcare. An article on nursing metaparadigm focuses on the framework of diabetic foot ulcer care. There has been an increase in lower foot amputation due to infected foot ulcers (Subrata, 2019). This nursing aspect is essential because they play an active role in preventing amputation. This action is done by intervening early in a change of status such as decreased foot sensation, sterile wound dressing change, and being competent in advanced technologies that aid in growth factor (Subrata, 2019)
Virginia Henderson nursing theory focuses on interventions to help the patient become independent (Khan, 2023). The theory comprises fourteen components to help the patient adhere to a certain level of independence. One of these activities is breathing normally. An example of this would relate to a patient I worked with who had a low O2 saturation post c-section. Thanks to the hospital’s O2 respiratory protocol every 2 hours, it was discovered that the patient had a PE that could be treated in time. Ian Jean Orlando’s nursing process theory emphasizes the nurse-patient relationship. The nursing process that has five stages is meant to help develop positive outcomes in the patient. A great example of this relates to my nursing experience with a poorly controlled pain patient. At the beginning of the shift, I collaborated with anesthesia for her to have a more potent pain regime. Because I addressed this initially, her pain could be more managed, and she expressed appreciation for my advocation.
