Please read “The Girly Shirt” below from Chapter 11 on Page 442:
The Girly Shirt: Eight-year-old Tim caused quite a disruption in class this morning. His teacher, Amy Fox, isn’t quite sure why things got out of hand, and so she is meeting with Tim while the rest of the class is at lunch to learn what happened.
Ms. Fox: Things got out of control in class this morning, didn’t they, Tim?
Tim: I guess they did.
Ms. Fox: Tell me what happened.
Tim: John and Steven were teasing me about my shirt. They really made me mad.
Ms. Fox: They were teasing you about your shirt? What did they say?
Tim: That it’s too pink. That it’s a “girly” color.
Ms. Fox: Really? I don’t think it’s too “girly” at all. In fact, I rather like that color on you. But anyway, you say the boys teased you about it. What did you do then?
Tim: I yelled at them. Then when you gave me that dirty look, they kept on laughing, and so I kept on yelling.
Ms. Fox: I see John and Steven were certainly wrong to tease you about your clothes. I’ll speak to them later. But right now, I’m concerned about how you reacted to the situation. You were so loud that the class couldn’t possibly continue with the lesson.
Tim: I know. I’m sorry.
Ms. Fox: I appreciate your apology, Tim. And I’d like to make sure that the next time someone hurts your feelings – maybe intentionally, maybe not- you don’t blow up the way you did today. Let’s come up with a plan for how you might keep your temper under better control.
Please answer the following question based on your readings in the textbook:
What type of plan might be effective in helping Tim control his anger?
