Coaching and Mentoring
Coaching is the process of providing one-on-one guidance and instruction to improve knowledge, skills and work performance. Coaching is mostly used as a skill-focused method, it can be used for knowledge development as well.
Mentoring is considered to be a form of coaching in which an ongoing relationship is developing between a senior and junior employee. The purpose is to provide the more junior employee with guidance.
Coaching emphasizes skill development, whereas mentoring focuses more on improving the employee’s fit within the organization. It emphasizes “attitude” development.
Consider the mentor/mentee (protege) relationship. There are benefits to both the one who mentors and the one who is mentored. For this week’s discussion, please describe the benefits for both roles in an 7th edition APA Format .
