Purpose and Overview

Descriptive statistics consists of techniques used to summarize a set of data. In a sense, we are using the data on members of a set to describe the set. We can do this via graphs and/or tables. After we take a look at the frequencies of our data, we need to choose a statistical test that shows how each of the units (individual subjects) seem similar. Thus, we use the measures of central tendency. This gives us an overview of the sample, which should give us an understanding of the population it represents.

The purpose of this assignment is for students to:

Begin development of a spreadsheet that represents a sample of 20 participants responding to the first five questions from the Math Anxiety Questionnaire in Module 1

Develop a bar graph.

Last week, you all completed the Math Anxiety Questionnaire and shared your results. This week, we will begin the lopment of a spreadsheet that represents a sample of 20 participants responding to the first five questions from the Math Anxiety Questionnaire. The first column is ID (which is a coding that refers to the individual participant), the next two columns are sex and age of these participants and the remaining columns are coded as variables that represent the first five questions from the Math Anxiety Questionnaire.

Step One: Using this fictitious data enter the data into an excel spreadsheet. This can be copied and pasted into the MS Excel™ spreadsheet.
