post #1 What I got from the videos is that the social credit score is a mass surveillance of the citizens. The government watches the people all day long to see if they are being good or bad. Good people have higher scores which allow them small privileges. The “bad” people have lower scores and get points deducted for minor infractions. This system is terrible for people in any economy because of the lack of freedom. If peoples money is tied up with the social credit score and someone steps out of line they won’t be able to buy things, or travel which is literally tyrannical. America has implemented this with visa credit cards. If you buy guns or ammo with a visa card the government puts that sale transaction in a different category and lets you know that you are being watched. This will have people living in fear and not criticize the government which is what they want from this experiment
After watching the videos, I think there are both good and bad sides if a country wanted to implicate their own “social credit system.” However, in my overall opinion, I believe a social credit system’s success would be solely based upon its specific design, implementation, as well as the social and political context in which it is applied. Countries that want to implicate a social credit system for the purpose of equality among citizens could eventually create branches of problems which may lead toward collapsing the country’s economy.
To highlight how social credit systems work, the general idea involves assessing and ranking individuals based on their social behavior and creditworthiness, using a scoring system. This score allows the ones in control of the social credit system to see each individual citizen’s score based on how they act in the society.

With this generalized idea of the social credit system, I believe this would heavily restrict one’s freedom. If a country with a large population wanted to establish their own form of a social credit system, in order for them to properly establish the social credit system they would need a huge surveillance system to monitor and enter data of their citizens. This can be very expensive, but if established will certainly limit one’s freedom as they are always being watched. With this in mind, I do believe that the country would turn into a tyrannical regime with no freedom.
