Good arguments require not only a strong opinion, but also an open willingness to engage with the opinions of others–to listen to your opponent and be willing and able to address their concerns. You cannot convince someone on the opposite side of a debate if you ignore their views and beliefs! You must be prepared and fully understand their counterarguments. However, you also cannot win an argument if you have no answer to your opponent’s counterarguments–you cannot convince them to join your side if their arguments seem stronger than yours.
