To earn credit for labs, this form must be checked by the instructor and included with your report. The report is due by 8am on August 3, 2023.
Proper lab setup and execution (0-10 points)
Possible procedure errors: phone in lab / food or drink in lab / improper PPE / improper aseptic technique / table didn’t clean-up / improper discard
Report content (0-10 points)
Your report should have the following marked sections, like a typical scientific paper:
Abstract – write a brief executive summary of the entire report, 250-words max
Introduction and Methods – summarize the lab procedures as briefly as possible
Lab Results / Data – mentioned above, this includes your tables, graphs, and maybe descriptions from the lab; use of class data is mandatory; data can be reformatted to look better or save space
Conclusions – in this section you should explain the data from Results with specific conclusions:
Is alcohol a useful antiseptic? How can you tell?
Which disinfectants are effective against each species of bacteria? Which is best?
Which antibiotic drugs are effective against each species of bacteria? Which is best?
How much UV light is required to destroy the microbes we tested? Explain why
Data, drawings, and descriptions (0-10 points)
Possible Report Errors:
Abstract incomplete / abstract too long / abstract doesn’t explain results
Improperly written scientific names / repeated grammar errors / no use of paragraphs
Larger than 12-point text / More than double-spaced
Sections not labeled / Missing content / report longer than 4 pages (not including data sheets or this form)
Improper citations for any source or image:

Use your lab data to research your microbe. Try to identify your unknown from the list.

Next, type an abstract about your work in Lab 28. Label the following sections:

BRIEFLY mention our goal and methods
Be sure to include your unknown # and WHICH MICROBE you have identified
Use proper scientific names
Turn in / take a photo of your lab data sheet (p. 203)
