The purpose of the annotated bibliography is to both summarize and assess scholarly material, i.e. peer-reviewed articles from top SC academic journals, on the approved subject and present it in the APA 6th edition format.

Collecting sources for a bibliography is useful, but when you have to write annotations for each source, you are forced to read each source more carefully. You begin to read more critically instead of just collecting information. At the professional level, annotated bibliographies allow you to see what has been done in the literature and where your own research or scholarship can fit. Writing an annotated bibliography can help you gain a good perspective on what is being said about your topic. By reading and responding to a variety of sources on a topic, you will start to see what the issues are, what people are arguing about, and you will then be able to develop your own point of view.

In summarizing and critiquing each peer-reviewed journal article, you should address and answer the following questions: 1. What is the question the author is trying to answer or the problem the author is trying to solve? 2. If applicable, what study or experiment did the author conduct (in order to answer the research question or solve the research problem)? 3. What are the author’s findings and conclusions? 4. What is your assessment/critique of those findings and conclusions, and how do those findings and conclusions relate to your SCM topic?

Use these broad topic examples as a starting point for your assignment but be sure to narrow your research focus within a given topic. (Annotated Bibliographies based upon broad/general SCM topics typically receive low(er) grades; the narrower the focus of your topic, the better). A recommendation/suggestion is that you think about an SCM problem that you are currently observing/experiencing (or a problem you have observed/experienced at a prior company) and consider using this assignment to research potential solutions and/or identify a set of best practices to solve the problem.
