Hi folks. There have been at least five extinction events in the long history of life on Earth, due to climate change and asteroid impact, and another more recent one, caused by humans, looms. Scientists have suggested that emerging genetic technology could “resurrect” some recently lost species (not dinosaurs, as in Jurassic Park, which is not possible) to ecosystems where they had an important role in the food web. What do you think about bringing some species back from the past and what role could they play in today’s world in both ecological and evolutionary contexts? What might we learn from the “de-extinction” of these lost species? For inspiration, please see the video below. I strongly encourage you to conduct further research on this topic from reputable sources to help craft a quality post and reply.
REPLY TOThe thought of bringing things back from extinction is very interesting. it almost makes it sound like modern advancements will make it to where there will be no more extinct animals. Because if some how it happened we would just bring them back through their DNA. However do i think that bringing them back would help or hurt, i think it would most likely cause for some other animal to go extinct or change the environment they were put into. if they were just brought back to go into a zoo i do not really the see the point in that either. you would basically bring them back to look at and they would make no change. Now in the video they discuss humans making the tiger go extinct in Tasmania. I kind of like the idea of brining it back to right a wrong but it begs the question of why it was hunted by humans was it hunting humans and the humans just won the battle or what. Personally i feel like these extinct animals should stay extinct but im sure there are plenty of differing opinions. I am sure there are some types of animals or insects that we would benefit from bringing back to life, i just feel like we havent had them for so long that we have it figured out by now.
