This assignment is basically a research paper. You will be synthesizing all of the information provided into a short paper that will convince the reader that your business proposal has a basis for existing. Your audience is simple: the administration of HCC (Houston Community College). Be sure that your paper is geared to the audience, that it uses the research you pulled, and that it has a clear focus in promoting the science and facts behind your business proposal. Be sure you are promoting your business proposal (shown below).
As always: purpose and audience drive the communication. Remember to relate each point and paragraph you write back to these two things!
Remember, you may not use any direct quotes — everything must be paraphrased — AND paraphrased information must be have in text citations. Please review the MLA formatting. If you have questions or issue please let me know.
To write this portion, cut your research into strips. Be sure to capture the intext citation for each piece of information. Then, ORGANIZE THEM BY TOPIC, NOT by source. This is important. You don’t want your paper to be organized by source. When papers are organized by source, they read like a collection of summaries of sources rather than good research papers.
Write your paper using Verbal Vomit. Type the thesis on the screen. Do not write an introduction. Just start with the body of the paper.
Pick up a stack of the slips of paper for a section of your paper. Reorganize the stack in a way that make sense and logically flows. Write your paper from stack to stack. Be sure to include the intext citations (which are on the research submissions) as you write.
As you write, add a sentence where necessary to help all of the information flow together.
Use short paragraphs and make sure that all the information in a paragraph is related.
Each paragraph needs at least two pieces of research from at least two different sources. This means there are at least two different sources and intext citations used in each paragraph. Paraphrased information only. Use your templates
Write for only 20 minutes at a time and then take a break of no more than three minutes. Come back and write for another 20 minutes at a time with another 3 minutes.
When you’ve gone through all the stacks, print your paper and set it aside.
Come back to your paper (preferably the next day) and read it out loud with a pen.
Make revisions and write your introduction and conclusion.
Papers may NOT be five paragraphs. Do not write a five paragraph paper in college. Ever. Be sure that you meet the length requirement in full. Papers that do not use the last line of a page, do not receive credit for that page. For example, 2 pages and some change is a two page paper, not a three page paper. You must write the full length of the page.
Be sure that you have a works cited page at the end of your paper. Works cited pages are never included in the page count.
