I have attached my rough draft that was turned in already and here are the instructions. I need this cleaned up and fixed to have a completed 5 paragraph essay.
Change is the only constant.
This phrase is credited to the ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus, and there is certainly some truth to it. If you look at a photo or video of yourself from kindergarten, I bet you’d be able to spot many ways that you have changed. But there are probably some continuities as well. What is a continuity? A continuity is something that remains constant or doesn’t change.
One purpose of studying history is to analyze and understand why changes occur and why things remain the same. In this project, you will write a five-paragraph essay analyzing major changes and continuities in the lives of African Americans during the 19th century. This can refer to social, political, or economic changes. You will use what you have learned in this course as well as outside research to write your essay.
Before you write your essay, you will use a prewriting process to brainstorm your ideas. You will begin prewriting in Lesson 12 by taking notes on a timeline. Once you have brainstormed your main ideas and evidence, you will begin to record information on your timeline.
Your first task is to understand the prompt. Here is the prompt and the basic format for your change and continuity over time essay:
Prompt: Analyze the changes and continuities in the lives of African Americans during the 19th century.
Introduction (Thesis) Paragraph
Begin with an introduction of one to two sentences that states the context of the topic.
In your thesis, which comes after the introductory sentences, you should present the main claims that you will defend in the essay.
The thesis helps you focus your ideas and helps the reader follow your argument more easily.
Body Paragraphs
There will be three body paragraphs.
Each body paragraph should include a topic sentence that makes a claim.
Provide evidence and an explanation to defend the claim made in the topic sentence.
Conclusion
Your concluding paragraph should restate your thesis in a way that summarizes the essay.
