As you complete the course, you will be expected to provide evidence that you understand and have reflected on the concepts learned in the course and your experiences in the classroom. One way of doing this is to produce a well-written and thought-out reflection paper. All reflection papers should outline what you believe to be the most important concepts, representing three different modules that you have learned and how you hope to apply them in your classroom. In addition, share your overall thoughts, feelings, struggles, likes/dislikes, wonderings about the field experience, and the students that you had the opportunity to observe and teach a lesson.
For the field hours, you may need to first observe at least three-five English Language Arts/Reading lessons taught by the teacher. After observing these lessons and mainly teaching your English Language Arts lesson, reflect on what went what didn’t go well. What are your initial impressions? How did the lesson activities unfold compared to what you had anticipated happening when you planned the lesson activities? Write changes you might think you and the teacher could implement the next time the lessons are taught. What changes would you make and why? Finally, summarize your overall field experience –What did you learn overall? What practical ideas or insights are you discovering about your learning and teaching?
The paper should be at least two-to-three pages typed, double-spaced, and in a 12 point font with one-inch margins. Grammar and spelling will count. Do not dash these off at the last minute. These reflection papers are to be used as proof of your thoughtful, meaningful, and critical thinking on our subject matter.
