1. Assignment 5 (with rubric) – Develop a writing lesson using a mentor text. Make sure to choose a teaching point that matches a state standard for your grade level. What specific lines of the text will you use to teach your objective? How will you model the expectations for your students?
2. Cumulative Project (with rubric) – Conduct some independent research on how parents can promote literacy outside the classroom. Create a 1-2 page guide to share with parents on ways they can promote literacy at home. Make this guide as specific to your grade level as possible. Include reading and writing activities that are parent-friendly along with links to appropriate online learning activities. Consider suggestions for building literacy in homes where English is not the primary language.
Per Instructor Message:
What specific lines of the text will you use to teach your objective? How will you model the expectations for your students?
Pay attention to keywords on the rubric, such as “detailed” and “multiple”. “The candidate has provided a detailed explanation of why the text was chosen. There are multiple opportunities across the text to model the teaching point and the teaching point is aligned to state standards.” – Where will you model the teaching points? What will that look like? How is it aligned with the state standard you have provided?
“Provides specifically planned opportunities for guided practice and independent practice. The candidate has also included a plan for small group intervention for those students that struggle during independent writing to use the teaching point in their own writing and need more guided practice and modeling.”
