In previous units, you have begun researching a topic within your field/major, considering research questions, and devising an argument/thesis statement. We will begin moving towards building the official argumentative essay for this course. In doing so, your task this week is to construct an outline for your paper.
Use the template provided to construct your outline. Type your answers next to the BLUE arrow, which will help ensure that you address all parts of the outline.
Once you have filled out the outline, upload it as a Microsoft Word document, not as a text submission, to receive a grade. You MUST use in-text citations and references (scroll to the last page of the document to see the “References” section).
By this point in the course, you should have continued to conduct research on your topic. Therefore, use and cite a minimum of 5 sources for this outline. You must have a minimum of 3 scholarly, peer-reviewed sources (the other 2 sources can be from reputable websites). Wikipedia and blogs are not acceptable sources for this paper. Consider using websites that end in .org and/or .edu). Try to find sources that were published within the last 3-7 years.
Question 2
Compose two introduction paragraphs for your argumentative essay. The introductions should demonstrate different approaches, using different words and phrasing. Only the thesis statement will remain similar. Then, in a third paragraph, share your thoughts about which introduction you are most likely to use and why.
A few reminders:
Paragraph 1 will be your first possible introduction.
Paragraph 2 will be your second possible introduction.
Paragraph 3 will be your commentary on both introductions.
Requirements
Write only in 3rd -person point of view
Do not announce the topic (e.g., “This paper will discuss the importance of …”, “In this essay…”, or “In this essay, I will…”).
If you use a source in your introduction, such as for a statistic, you should cite it and reference the material.
