Before you can participate in the discussion for this Unit, you need to find a Creation Myth from a culture other than ancient Greece. Some places you might go to find a myth are: Barbara Sporoul’s book, Primal Myths, which is a good source of creation myths from the around the world; other books that deal with creation myths; or you can find a myth on the internet so long as it is substantially cited with peer-reviewed sources (i.e., no blogs, personal webpages, etc). If you haven’t found a myth yet — STOP — find a good myth and then, once you have your myth and have understood it, you’re ready to participate in Discussion.
Summarize your myth in approx. 2 pages.
Make sure you make note of the culture/geographical area from which your myth comes
Cite the source from which you got your myth
Describe the ways in which your myth either conforms to or departs from the 5 things that Sproul argues that myths do (and especially creation myths). (Here I want you to think about myths in general and how your myth relates to these).
Describe whether and/or in what ways your myth connects to the Greek creation myth (full points for making reference to both your reading and this week’s lecture)
