Leadership Interview
You are asked to interview a local, national, or international healthcare leader.
Please do not ask —> DNP Faculty Lead/DNP Faculty Advisor or DNP Program Director.
Must be a leader outside of the TWU College of Nursing. Consider a DNP/PhD Leader, MD, CNO, CFO, or high-level nursing executive.
Purpose: The purpose of this interview is to expand your thinking about how leaders in healthcare have addressed some of the tough issues that we are always confronting, and now more than ever with the many changes we are experiencing.
Interviews should be 20-40 minutes and focus on your leader’s successes, challenges, and opportunities.
First, think and reflect on: How can you learn from a dialogue with this leader?
Next, conduct the interview (via Zoom, in-person only – not via email)
Finally, here are the questions:
What is your leadership style?
How do you deal with conflict?
What was a difficult decision you had to make and how did you handle this?
How do you share bad news?
Best mentoring advice?
Two other brief questions that you create.
Your original post will be a summary of your overall takeaways and how you plan to incorporate strategies into your own action plan.
How did this interview stimulate your own next steps for professional development?
Make sure that you use the initials of the individual as well as their system role, for example: T.K. – Chief Nursing Office (CNO)
Most important: Log your total time for the Leadership interview and any follow-up items (summarizing your notes, follow-up calls to the leader etc.) into InPlace.
Reply and provide feedback to your peer(s) within 3 days of their initial post.
Summary of overall takeaways and messages from your interview (at least 300-400 words for original post, no penalty if more). Consider the Essentials and other competencies.
How did you incorporate into your Action Plan and Next Steps for your own professional development?
